2.02 Power Couple Baal and Asherah

Today we wrap up chapters one and two of Judges. We learn about some characters we will see a lot of later including Baal and Asherah. We also learn about El and Elohim.

We see how successful the Israelites were in driving out the Canaanites (not very) and we see how faithful they were to the LORD (not very). Chapter two gives us a little intro into the rest of Judges, which we’ll plunge into with the next episode, picking up at chapter three.

Thanks for listening. Have a great holiday if you celebrate one. If you don’t, have a great holiday as well. Until next time, be strong and courageous. Have I not commanded you?

1.20 Choose Ye This Day

Welcome back. In today’s episode Joshua delivers what appears to be a couple of farewell addresses, but perhaps they are examples of ancient near eastern covenants. We’ll look at that and break down some of the elements of Hittite and Assyrian covenants and see if what Joshua is doing fits into that pattern.

We’ll also find out if the monotheistic Israelites still have other gods they’re holding on to and what Joshua thinks about that.

At the end of Joshua we sadly have three funerals to attend. All that and more on today’s JoshuaJudgesRuth.

For homework, read ahead in Judges. And as always, be strong and courageous. Have I not commanded you?
